Mini and Maxi are 2 amigurumi koalas in 2 different sizes to be made with the same yarn!
These new amigurumi, I must admit, were born by chance. My sketchbook is full of quirky and fun animals that can’t wait to become cute amigurumi, and every time I’m working on a new design I browse through it until I feel a little sparkle. This time I didn’t find the right one. So I grabbed the pencil and scribbled on a couple more pages of the sketchbook.
I wanted something with simple lines that inspires tranquility and was suitable for all ages! And here is Maxi the Koala. When I was ready to make the koala for the second time (because that lemon yellow is just irresistible!!!), I started crocheting a new miniature version, to create a 2 in 1 pattern!
This means that both Koalas can be made with the same yarn, because there are 2 patterns! A few months ago I played with different yarn thickness to make Elvie the elephant in 3 sizes, the same method is also possible with Mini and Maxi to make them in even more than 2 sizes.
This pattern uses multiple crochet techniques for the different parts of the koalas. It is a quite simple pattern, but it is interesting at the same time because:
- the head is worked starting from an oval while the body is a circle
- head and ears are sewn, while the legs are joined to the body as you go
For Mini and Maxi I used a matte cotton yarn (I love matte cotton!) and a wonderful range of colors: Stella by Ophelia Italy. It is a sport weight yarn, slightly thinner than my usual DK weight cotton, in fact I used a 2.25 mm crochet hook instead of my trusted 2.5 mm, but it’s all for the benefit of tenderness, I love small amigurumi!
You can find the PDF pattern in my shop with 20% OFF until the end of February 2021. It’s also available on Etsy and Ravelry!
