AmiguruMay is a third of the way (if you don’t know what it is, click here!) so I thought to share a little (or I should say big?) gift with you to say Thank YOU! I started this challenge just to have fun and You’ve made it the greatest opportunity to get to know each other and build up the most amazing amigurumi community.
So I thought I’d share the crochet pattern to make Cory the Giant Bunny! Bunnies seems to be one of the most popular animals to crochet and amigurumi lovers. The sweet face, the long ears and the soft tail (ahhhh the tail !!!) would make anyone in love with them!
Free PDF crochet pattern is available on Ravelry, click here to download it!
That’s all you need to make the Giant Bunny:
– Women’s Institute Soft and Chunky yarn (70% Acrylic, 30% Merino Wool, 100g / 110m) 4 balls in Cream
– 6 mm crochet hook
– cotton flannel fabric in mint green
– a pair of 15 mm safety eyes
– large pompom maker (9 cm diameter)
– black and pink tapestry wool
– toy stuffing
– stitch markers
– sewing thread
– sewing needle
– tapestry needle
Cory is 55 cm (22 ½ in) tall when using the indicated or similar yarn. It is not necessary to use the recommended yarn and crochet hook to make this amigurumi! Using a smaller crochet hook, and suitable yarn, the amigurumi will be smaller while preserving the same proportions and cuteness. It is a beginner friendly pattern and you can avoid the fabric details if needle and thread are not as fun as crochet for you. The bow tie can be replaced by a ribbon tied at the neck!
I’d be really happy to see your Giant (or Small, Medium, Huge… Bunny!), feel free to share a picture with me!

Hi! I really love this bunny, I am almost done. I was wondering on what rounds you have sewn the legs and arms to? Thank you!
Hi Nienke! Sew the arms just below the “neck”. Attach the legs over the first few rounds of the body leaving a gap between them. I hope you had fun making it!
What a cute bunny… I’ll try it.
So cute! Thanks for sharing.
Hello. Where do i get this free pattern? Thank you!
Hi! Cory the giant bunny is on Ravelry as Free PDF https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cory-the-giant-bunny
I have a question. The exact yarn you suggest to use (Women’s Institute Soft and Chunky yarn 100g) says on the package to use a 9mm hook. The pattern says to use a 6mm hook. Which do I use? the one the manufacturer suggests or what you say?
Hi Jenn, the manufacturer suggests the correct crochet hook size if you like to use that yarn for classic crochet projects (blankets, accessories, clothes…). When I used that yarn to make an amigurumi I found that 6mm was the right size to get quite tight stitches. In general I recommend you to use the crochet hook size that gives you the right result, no matter what the label or the pattern say.
Would I be able to make this using normal DK yarn? I don’t mind it being smaller (I’m guessing half the size?) but would the proportions be ok?
Hi Dominika, yes it works with any yarn! The final size will be smaller, but all the proportions ok :) Happy crafting!
